An earthquake of moderate intensity shook the Indonesian island of Sumatra early this morning, the Meteorological Department said.

The temblor, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, struck the island's north at 5.44 am. It was epicentred at 5.2 degree north latitude and 94.8 degree east longitude.
There were no immediate reports of any casualties.
