A moderate 5.1-magnitude earthquake shook the west Indonesian island of Simeuleu on Monday, government meteorologists said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The earthquake struck at 4.32 pm, said meteorologist Sutiyono.
The quake was centred 33 kilometres beneath the Indian Ocean and 102 kilometres northwest of Sinabang town on Simeuleu island, just off the west coast of Sumatra, said Sutiyono.
