A social organisation from Harda has petitioned the President of India, urging him to issue directives to stop disrespect to the national anthem when it is played in cinema halls before beginning of a show.
A memorandum addressed to the President was on Friday submitted to additional district magistrate (ADM) of Harda by a delegation of the organisation Mowgli social welfare society.
The president of the organisation Ishwar Vishnoi has said that there are many points that amount to disrespect of the national anthem when it is played in cinema halls. First, the anthem is termed as 'rashtrageet' (national song) rather than 'rashtragaan' (national anthem) in the message asking the viewers to stand up for the anthem.
The duration of the anthem played in the cinema halls, which should be 58 seconds according to rule, is over 70 seconds. Also most of the people do not stand up during the anthem and are engaged in different activities.
The playing of the national anthem is also played before screening of adult or other obscene films, which is also disrespectful. The President has been urged through the memorandum to consider these points and get them rectified so prevent disrespect to the anthem.
