Seeking to tackle the "clash of civilizations" that has exacerbated since 9/11, Musharraf said his government's twin aims were to promote moderation that would help resolve West's "political disputes affecting the Muslims", the Daily Times said.
His own government, he told a visiting US Congressional delegation, would fight extremism and terrorism to build a moderate, economically strong and progressive Islamic state.
Musharraf also sought parity with India on the issue of nuclear energy, stressing Pakistan's "growing energy requirements and the need for civil nuclear energy cooperation under appropriate safeguards".
