Narain Karthikeyan to continue single seat racing in AutoGP

The series originated as the Italian Formula 3000 series in 1999 and currently uses the first generation cars of the now defunct A1 GP series in which Karthikeyan raced with success, winning two races in the 2007-2008 season.

Karthikeyan has signed up only for the opeining round of the eight round, 16 race series that includes races at F1 tracks like Monza, Hungaroring, Silverstone and the Nurburgring.

However, motorsport magazine Autosport reports that Karthikeyan is close to signing up for the entire season.

It had been speculated that India's first ever F1 driver would make a switch to Indycars or race in the Japanese Super GT championship.

Former F1 participants in AutoGP inculde current Lotus F1 driver Romain Grosjean who convincinly won the 2010 series title despite competing in only eight out of the season's 12 races.
