National crafts exhibition to coincide with IFFI

A national exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts from different states will be organised by the Goa government, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Rural Development from November 24 in Panaji.
The event coincides with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in the State capital and State Chief minister Pratapsinh Rane is expected to inaugurate the exhibition.
Titled 'Goa Saras Fair-2005', the products to be display in the event are made by self-help groups and rural artisans from various States.
More than 400 artisans from 28 states and union territories are expected to participate and record a turnover of Rs 50 lakh during the show.
State Panchayat Raj Minister Subhash Shirodkar and Rural Development Commissioner S K Jain told mediapersons here that the Union Ministry has sanctioned Rs 20 lakh grant for holding the event at the Parade grounds, a stone's throw away from the main venue of the IFFI.
The authorities have decided to conduct competitions in singing and dancing to encourage traditional culture.
