NC again demands pre-1953 status for Kashmir
Ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir has demanded that the Centre restore the pre-1953 position to the state to fulfil the "broken promises".
"The instrument of accession was based on three important components -- defence, foreign affairs and communication --and as such the autonomy or 1952 position has to be restored to fulfil all the broken promises," NC, which is ruling the state in a coalition with Congress, said in a statement.
Considering autonomy as a legal document, the statement quoted party general-secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad as saying that National Conference will continue to fight for restoration of "sovereign character of the state".
Ahmad, while interacting with various delegations at his residence on Thursday, said "the promises should be kept as per the instrument of accession" to win the hearts of people.
The senior most NC leader accused the opposition parties in the state of eroding the constitution.
