New Pakistan envoy to arrive on Monday

Pakistan's career diplomat Shahid Malik to take over as the country's new High Commissioner to India.

Pakistan's career diplomat Shahid Malik will arrivein New Delhion Monday to take over as the country's new High Commissioner to India at a time when the two countries have decided to push forward their relations despite challenges.

Malik, an old India hand, succeeds Aziz Ahmad Khan who completed last month his successful three-year tenure during which the two countries resumed the composite dialogue and witnessed several significant developments.

"The new High Commissioner will arrivein New Delhion Monday," Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner Afrasiabsaid on Saturday.

Prior to his posting in New Delhi, Malik was Pakistan's High Commissioner to Canada. He had earlier served in Delhi as Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner between 1992 and 1995.

Malik will take over as the High Commissionerat a time when the relations between the two countries are critically poised. The two countries last month resumed the composite dialogue after a pause of four months caused by the July 11 Mumbai blasts.
