One of the biggest shopping complexes in the city of Srinagar has now been completed with an aim to rehabilitate hundreds of shopkeepers of Srinagar city.
The complex was inaugurated by chief minister Omar Abdullah and construction of the biggest and latest complex was taken by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Company (JKPCC).
This shopping complex has been done up to rehabilitate the shopkeepers who got displaced due to the construction of Jehangir Chowk- Rambagh expressway corridor.
Ghulam Hassan, a shopkeeper, said, "We have very high expectations. It would be useful for us and tourists. We have been waiting for five years, ever since our shops were demolished. We hope the government will allot us immediately."
Another shopkeeper, Aijaz Malik, said that he was awaiting the opening of the complex eagerly. "We are very happy now. It's a beautiful complex. Our business was suffering badly since past 25 years."
Decorated with traditional dajji diwari (wooden work) on the outer facade, the double-storied rehabilitation complex at Jehangir chowk, estimated to cost about Rs 50 crore, has adequate parking facility for hundreds of cars and comprises of 152 shops.
This shopping complex is located in Srinagar city and is expected to attract locals and tourists at a large scale which can result in good business for the shopkeepers too.
