Ten eminent Indian Americans who have done significant work in the field of philanthropy and community service will be honoured this week for their contribution to society.
The National Federation of Indian Americans (NFIA) will honour 10 members of the community at its 16th biennial convention in New York City over the weekend, a statement said today.
NFIA is an umbrella body of more than 200 Indian American organisations in the US.
Its three-day convention would be inaugurated by Indian Ambassador to the US, Meera Shankar.
The Indian Americans who have been picked up for the honour include Narpat Bhandari, a technologist and entrepreneur, New York philanthropist Peter Bhedha, Shanti Bhavan founder Abraham George and PND Hotel Investors CEO Pravin Khatiwala, among others.
"NFIA has been honouring outstanding achievers among Indian Americans for the last 30 years who have made a mark in the American society and/or have done outstanding community service and the New York convention will honour 10 such achievers and contributors to our society," said Lal Motwani, Convention convener.
"NFIA is proud to honour these award recipients who are role models to our new generations growing up in America," said NFIA president Chandu Patel.
The key note address at the convention would be delivered by Vivek Wadhwa, Senior Research Associate with the Labor and Worklife Program, Harvard Law School and eminent economist, Prof Jagdish Bhagwati.

{{/usCountry}}Thomas Abraham, founding president of NFIA and chairman of the conference, said that the convention would pass a series of resolutions which would be submitted to both the US and Indian governments.
