The BJP has demanded a CBI probe into alleged Indian links with Iraq's oil-for-food scandal after a TV channel claimed to have got evidence of a deal between Andaleeb Sehgal, a friend of former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh's son Jagat Singh, and Swiss oil firm Masefield.
"The news report has conclusively filled the missing links which the government earlier used to deny," Arun Jaitley said.
Also, the BJP leader, who alleged that the scandal was being inadequately probed, demanded that investigations into it be carried out by the CBI under tougher laws dealing with graft and illegal foreign fundings.
"It should be probed by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act," he said.
Jaitley also demanded that the government make public all documents relating to the case and its investigation.
"The country and Parliament should be taken into confidence. The government should make public all documents related to the scandal," he said, citing the news report to support his charge that Natwar Singh did introduce Sehgal to then Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz before the deal.
