Bombs, bows and arrows were used in the clash at Bheramari village, the police said.

They, however, denied allegation by the Trinamool Congress that CPI(M) men opened fire.

The police rushed to the scene and dispersed the warring groups. No arrest was reported.

The deceased was identified as CPI(M) activist, 32-year-old Mustaq Ahmed.

Police and RAF personnel have been posted at the village in view of tension.
