An executive from Nokia Inc on Friday told the special court that the five cellphones recovered from the nine slain 26/11 attackers had been shipped by the company to its Karachi-based distributors last year.
“The cellphones were manufactured in China and shipped to Pakistan in June 2008,” said the enforcement manager of the company from the Los Angeles office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) through video conferencing.
The mobile handsets, the prosecution said, were recovered from Taj hotel, Hotel Trident Oberoi and Nariman House. The attackers had used the phones during the attack to talk to and take instructions from their supervisors in Pakistan.
During the course of her deposition, special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam handed over a letter written by the executive to the FBI giving details of the mobile handsets. He added that the FBI had carried out an independent investigation by registering a separate case at Los Angeles pertaining to the death of six US citizens in 26/11 attack.
The letter stated the five Nokia-1200 phones were shipped to Karachi-based distributors, United Mobiles and 12 Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, under two different consignments on June 26 and June 28 last year.
