Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Dr Pandey said he had urged Ashok Gehlot, in charge of party affairs in Uttar Pradesh, and senior Congress leaders to organise the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee annual convention in Varanasi. He further added that he had also urged Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in this regard.
Dr Pandey said the UPCC should send a proposal to the All India Congress Committee for organising its annual convention in Varanasi. He informed that the annual convention of UPCC had not been held since 1989.
Dr Pandey said that since Varanasi had its own religious and cultural importance, it was the right place for organising annual convention which would energise Congress workers across the State.
He further added that All India Congress Committee should give three months time for organising this convention in Varanasi.
He appreciated the recent reshuffle in the Congress party at the district level in Utar Pradesh. He said that new faces and ground workers had got a chance in the district and city units in UP.
Referring to price hike in essential commodities, he said that black marketing and illegal stock holders were responsible for price hike in food grains and other essential commodities.
He further added that the government should conduct raids on illegal stock holders of food grains and take stern action against the black marketeers.
To a query on the weavers’ problem, he said a special bank should be established in Varanasi to promote the marketing of Banarasi sarees.
