Party spokesman Arun Jaitley told reporters that Vajpayee would make an appeal to vote for the BJP candidates.

He said the BJP was planning a series of campaigns very shortly and the PM's appeal was part of it.

The BJP, Jaitley said, would contact people through various 'communication instruments'.

He said the BJP and JD (U), who have reached an electoral understanding, also proposed to have a joint campaign 'as far as possible'.

Meanwhile, former minister and head of the women's wing of the state Congress, Nagamma Keshavamurthy, joined the BJP. She was also an AICC member and former deputy speaker of the state assembly.
