Meanwhile, the SSP suspended the accused constable on the report submitted by the SP (west) in this regard.

According to sources, Pandey’s service revolver was with his jeep driver constable Rampravesh, as per practice. The inspector has another revolver and that is why this service revolver was always kept by his trusted aide and driver Rampravesh, sources reveled. In fact even when Rampravesh went home after duty, Pandey never bothered to ask him to hand over the revolver. On Tuesday night when Rampravesh was going home to Kalyanpur, he took a break at a liquor shop. It was here that some miscreants stole the revolver when he became drunk, sources said.

Next morning when the theft came into light, the entire force at Fazalgang police station was pressed to find the revolver but to no avail. It was alleged that Tripurari Pandey tried to register a case but some senior officials advised him not to do so. SSP Alok Singh immediately called SP (west), Gulab Singh and asked him for a detailed report within 24 hours in this matter.

As per the police rulebook, no one less than the rank of a sub inspector can possess service revolver unless he is performing the duty of a security guard or shadow.

Later, acting on the report submitted by the SP (west), SSP Alok Kumar Singh suspended the accused constable Rampravesh and ordered to lodge an FIR in this regard, while a departmental inquiry was also ordered.
