Assistant commissioner of police (west) Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu had sent the complaint filed with the MC by a city resident against fleecing to Sarabha Nagar station house officer (SHO) Amrinder Singh on Monday evening. However, the latter had so far not taken any action.

When contacted, Singh said he would soon start inquiry in the issue and take appropriate action. When asked whether the inquiry was time-bound, he said he could not tell anything regarding the issue.

However, Sandhu said he had asked the Sarabha Nagar SHO to take action on the complaint lodged by the MC.

The issue pertained to fleecing of a resident at Sarabha Nagar Main Market where `10 was charged from a two-wheeler driver instead of `5.

MC joint commissioner PS Ghuman had on Monday morning directed superintendent of tehbazari wing (Zone D) Jasdev Sekhon, where the violation took place, to file a complaint against the contractor with the police and ensure that action was taken against him.

However, till late Monday afternoon no complaint was received by the police department.

In the past, residents as well as political leaders have demanded cancellation of contract of parking lots along Ferozepur Road, the one at Sarabha Nagra market and mini-secretariat that is under the deputy commissioner.

Ghuman had told HT on Monday that, “We have written to the police to register an FIR against the erring staff of contractor at Sarabha Nagar parking lot. We will not spare the contractor if he is found overcharging.”
