Policemen on duty at a polling station in Reyod in Samba district found that election officer Sudershan Singh got sick after the polling completed at 1700 hours on Thursday, a police spokesman said in Jammu on Friday.

As the condition of poll officer deteriorated, the policemen took him on their shoulders and rushed him to a hospital, covering a distance of about five kilometers on foot.

The life of the polling officer was saved by timely treatment, he said.

Taking note of the exemplary courage shown by the policemen, DIG Jammu-Kathua range A Q Manhas rewarded the party by giving them commendation certificate and cash award, the spokesman said.
