IN A bid to raise awareness about polio immunisation campaign for the next phase of pulse polio drive beginning from Sunday, the officials of district health administration took out a vehicle rally from district headquarters here on Saturday.

District magistrate Rajiv Agrawal flagged off the rally and made an appeal from the common people to get their wards below the age of five years immunised by polio vaccine. As many as 50 auto-rickshaws and four wheelers were roped in for the vehicle procession to raise awareness for next leg of polio drive.
Chief medical officer of Varanasi, Dr AP Singh, district health education and information officer, Dr SC Joshi, Dr AK Pandey of World Health Organisation, Dhananjay Srivastava of UNICEF, district immunization officer, Dr DB Prasad, Dr LC Yadav and Dr Sanjay were among other prominent health officials participated in the awareness rally.
Pre-recorded audio-cassettes broadcasting messages of importance of polio immunisation were played in the four wheelers. Besides, the auto-rickshaws were carrying flags and banners in the rally. After passing from various places such as Maqbool Alam Road, Chaukaghat, Teliabagh, Lahurabeer, Kabir Chaura, Maidagin, Chauk, Godaulia, Sonarpura, Assi, Lanka and Manas Mandir, the polio awareness rally culminated at the CMO office in Durga Kund area.
District health education and information officer, Dr SC Joshi informed that as many as 1802 pollio immunisation booths would be set up in rural and urban areas of Varanasi district on Sunday. Mobile teams would be deployed in some trains for polio vaccination. Dr Joshi further said that divisional commissioner CN Dubey and district magistrate, Rajiv Agrawal would kick off the immunisation drive at District Women’s Hospital in Kabir Chaura area on Sunday.
Besides, the officials of 74th Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) would set up a polio eradication camp in Sahupuri area on Sunday. Apart from this several non-government organisations, clubs and other social organisations would also set up their polio immunisation booths at various places on Sunday.
