IT IS high time party leaders and workers acted before it’s too late. Mere slogan-shouting and garlands will be of little help. This advice was given by BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan to party workers, here on Friday.

Addressing party workers at a function, Mahajan said, “There is no dearth of leaders in the BJP but mere slogan shouting and garlands will be of no help to the party.” He advised party cadres to wake up from their slumber and act before it’s too late.
Commenting on the state of BJP in the country, Mahajan said, “In the last Lok Sabha elections BJP got one seat in Jharkhand but in the Vidhan Sabha elections held later, BJP was able to form the State Government.”
Further stressing on the strong position of BJP in the country, Mahajan pointed out that in the recently held Bihar Vidhan Sabha elections, BJP got more seats than the RJD. And now the party has even formed its government in Karnataka. “Very few people know that BJP is the single largest party in Karnataka,” asserted Mahajan.
“But there is no doubt that UP is a challenge for the party, as the position of BJP has further worsened in the state and much is needed to be done to revive the party here,” stressed Mahajan.
On the oft-stated comment that the vote share of the BJP has decreased considerably in comparison to Congress, Mahajan said,” In 1984, BJP had two MPs while Congress had 400. But in the span of 20 years, by 2004, Congress has 145 MPs and BJP has 137.”
Attacking the Mulayam Singh government on the law and order front, Mahajan said, “The situation is so grim in the State that now even drivers are being kidnapped. Mulayam Singh has not been able to fulfill his dream of converting the State into ‘Uttam’ Pradesh in the last two years but there is no doubt that kidnapping has become flourishing industry in UP,” remarked Mahajan.
Manmohan Singh was also dubbed as a dummy Prime Minister by the BJP leader. “Congress president Sonia Gandhi is taking decisions and making announcements even without consulting the Prime Minister,” alleged Mahajan.
Earlier, speaking at a function organised by BJP MLA Satish Mahana, Mahajan said, “Education for women is a must and education is directly related with the quality of life.” Various surveys have proved that educated women are more happy and prosperous in comparison to those who are uneducated, added Mahana. And education must go beyond books, stressed Mahajan.
Commenting on the plight on women in UP, Mahajan pointed out that even less than 30 per cent of women in UP are educated, while in Kerala, more than 95 per cent of them are educated.
He also felicitated meritorious students of the city, who had secured a place in the merit list of High School and Intermediate examinations.
