Ayurveda too can acquire global recognition and acceptance if it is presented in the right spirit and as a way of life, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
“Yoga had acquired global recognition for people who wanted a stress-free life and are moving towards holistic healthcare. Similarly, if Ayurveda is presented in the right spirit as a way of life, it too can acquire acceptance,” he said in his address at the valedictory session of the 6th World Ayurveda Congress.
He said the biggest challenge to Ayurveda comes from people who have dedicated their life to it as “they too do not trust it fully.”
The PM sought to dispel the notion that Ayurveda and Allopathy are competing streams of medical science. If a person adopts Ayurveda, he can ensure that he remains healthy and free of disease, he added.
Research conclave
The event also had many ayurvedic products on show as part of a research conclave titled “ Ayurveda Inspired Discovery”.
One among the products was a mouth wash that could provide relief from pain for patients receiving radiation treatment for oral cancer.
The mouthwash was developed, tested and patented by the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB)— a premier institute under the Department of Biotechnology— along with the Regional Cancer Centre in Kerala.
“The mouthwash is a simple supernatant liquid obtained by dissolving in water equal quantities of powdered dried leaves and bark of neem; fruits of amla, yellow myrobalan/haritaki and beleric myrobalan/bibhitaki; and dried liquorice roots,” said RGCB director M Radhakrishna Pillai.

{{/usCountry}}Another innovation in the field of Ayurveda was the conversion of all kinds of ‘Churna’ (powder), treating several diseases, into capsules.
“We have also developed a type of herbal tea, called Arjun Herbal Tea, to keep the cholesterol level in people under control,” Vaid Sanjay Sharma of Siddha Sanjeevani Ayurvedam said.
