President APJ Abdul Kalam arrived in Thiruvananthapuram for a 15-hour visit on Thursday.
Kalam was received at the airport here by Governor RL Bhatia and Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan among others. His programme in Thiruvananthapuram includes the inauguration of a seminar at the Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology. He later presents the Sree Chithra Thirunal Award to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman G Madhavan Nair.

Nair is Kalam's former colleague at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in the state capital, where they worked together for over two decades till the 80s.
The president leaves for Kanyakumari on Friday after spending the night at Raj Bhavan in the state capital.
