President visits Ajmer dargah

President Pratibha Patil today visited the 'dargah' of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisthi here and prayed for peace and brotherhood in the country.

President Pratibha Patil on Monday visited the 'dargah' of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisthi here and prayed for peace and brotherhood in the country.

Patil, who is on a three-day visit to Rajasthan, spent about 30 minutes at the shrine and offered a 'chaddar' as well as some money.

A 'Sapasnama' or welcome address was read out in the honour of Patil who was accompanied by Governor Shivraj Patil and Ajmer MP Sachin Pilot.

"I prayed for brotherhood, harmony and unity in the country and wished for peace and progress," Patil said in her brief address.

The President was given a red carpet welcome at the shrine and was welcomed with the sound of cymbals upon arrival.

She took keen interest in understanding the history and various important facets of the shrine which she was briefed about.

Patil was also presented with a memento at the 'dargah'.
