A meeting of the samiti was held on Tuesday in which members demanded a high-level inquiry into the alleged harassment of patients at this hospital.

Secretary Santosh Kumar said KNMH staff harassed patients and forced them to take costly medicines from the hospital store. Despite regular financial aid given by the Central government to provide medicines on a discount basis, the poor patients were charged heavy amounts for every injection. The cancer treatment has also become very costly at the KNMH, he said.

“Through the memorandum, the samiti has demanded Rahul Gandhi to set up a high level inquiry into the mismanagement and harassment of poor patients at the Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital.

It has been also pointed out the patients and their attendants were forced daily to buy entry passes of Rs 5 to Rs 10,” he added.
