The department has planned to set up a central security system for which the bidding has already been done.

Director General, Department of Tourism Om Prakash said that the Government would soon finalise the name of the company and hand over the security of all its hotels to them. He said that the State Tourism had 58 units in three main regions: Western, central and eastern. “While 44 units are operative at present, two more have to be taken over,” he said. Thus, the department needed security for its 46 units, he added. He said that the central security system would help the department in two ways.

It would encourage uniformity and save a lot of Government money, he added.

The employees to be engaged would be the permanent staff of the security agency and the Government would not give them provident fund and other allowances, he added.

According to the proposal, the government plans to pay around Rs 3000 to the security agency for each person deputed for the job.

However, if the Government would depute its own staff, the cost per person would come around Rs 5,000 including PF and other allowances, the DG said.

At present, all operating units had their own security system at the local level, he added. “This, at times, creates a lot of problems,” he said. Department also constituted a vigilance flying squad to check the security its hotels and at other tourism centres, the D-G said.

This squad, including a five-member team, worked on the basis of the complaints. On receiving the complaints, the team rushed to the spot. ‘

“This arrangement has proved to be successful,” said Om Prakash.
