BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday gave credit for the party's good performance in UP civic polls to RSS support and the hard work of party workers.
He said the elections results indicated that the BJP would be able to win a clear majority in the state Assembly polls.
According to him, it was the close coordination between the Sangh Parivar, state party leadership and the workers that contributed to BJP's good showing in the election.
Singh received a pat on the back from former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee who hailed the party performance in the poll saying that the cadres faced the civic poll boldly and worked hard in the face of "odd circumstances".
In a statement, he urged the party cadres to work unitedly to win public confidence in the state.
There was, however, no similar public statement from former party president LK Advani, who is believed to be upset with his predecessor Singh for taking certain decisions, like inducting RSS pracharaks into the party, without consulting him.
While Vajpayee campaigned for the civic poll in the state, Advani had kept away.
Singh visited Advani at his residence during the day to greet him on the occasion of his birthday. Advani, who was born in Karachi in 1927, turned 79 on Wednesday. Several other political leaders and admirers thronged the senior leader's residence to greet him.
