Pleated schoolgirl skirts and peddle pushers in metallic stretch materials conjured up rolls of poppins candy as Manish Arora showcased his Spring-Summer collection at the Seagram’s Fashion Tour.

On the other hand, designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna presented a sober, yet trendy collection, mostly in black and white at the Grand, New Delhi. In what you could call a mini fashion week, with collections by Tarun Tahiliani, Rocky S and Anshu Arora Sen, the Seagram’s show provided a glimpse of what you could expect in the upcoming Lakme India Fashion Show.

“My inspiration comes from what I may be doing at that particular time, but my collections are always young and trendy,” announced Arora. Arora continued with his tradition of shocking the audience, be it through the music, make-up, or hair. But his clothes took the cake. An exotic fusion of magenta, electric blue and green; printed fabrics made into tops and drain pipe trousers and butt-revealing shorts were reminiscent of the 80s, with an added trance and techno feel. “Manish’s clothes were well-designed but I think some of them were over-the-top,” remarked designer Rocky S who is busy designing for Bollywood films. “I am excited about Rakth. Bipasha Basu plays a tarot card reader and a mother. So I had to give the designs a mysterious look and keep her fully covered too.”

Designer Poonam Bhagat was impressed with the Cue duo’s collection. “While Manish’s clothes were for those with a good body, Rahul and Rohit’s collection was young and wearable at the same time,” she added. Models flaunting the clothes included Katrina Kaif, Jesse Randhawa, Tupur Chatterjee, Sapna Kumar and Carol Gracias, among others.
