Denying media reports that his party played a key role in sending a group of Muslim youths to Bangladesh for jihadi training, Ajmal alleged that the issue was part of a bigger conspiracy against the AIUDF. “Many people in political circles fear the AIUDF’s surge and popularity that we achieved in a short span of time.

The report said that AIUDF and the Assam unit of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind played a key role in selecting Muslim youth for jihadi training in Bangladesh. The report claimed that the first batch of about 15-20 Muslim youths from Assam crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border through Sukhchar in Dhubri district, while another group was waiting to leave.

The Bajrang Dal has called for a 24-hour Assam bandh on October 31 in protest against the issue and has demanded that the AIUDF be banned. The ruling Congress as well as the Asom Gana Parisad have demanded that the Centre take tough action to root out jihadi activities from the state.
