The main cause of the water shortage was breaking down of the rising mains near Barbadar village due to landslides since Monday evening.

The town gets water from the Beas river located near Longnimathan village and the water is lifted from there to Hiranagar main reservoirs and from there the water is supplied to the people of the town.

Worst-affected were the people who had marriages of their kin on Tuesday and had to fetch water from other sources for their use. Similarly, others had to rush to nearby wells, bowlis and hand pumps to fetch water for their needs. A huge rush was witnessed at hand pumps. People came to know through newspapers on Tuesday morning that there will be no water in the town for two days.

Meanwhile, locals are ggrieved over the failure of the irrigation-cum-public health department to give them information in advance about the non-availability of water in the town.

Arvind Verma, assistant Eegineer of the trrigation-cum-public health department, said the supply would be restored by Wednesday as the workers and the officials of the department were busy restoring the pipeline.
