Addressing a Friday congregation in Srinagar’s Grand Mosque in Srinagar on Friday Mirwaiz said that he has written a letter to the UN secretary general in which he has expressed deep anguish over the role of United Nation vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir and has castigated the international body for its failure to implement its resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the letter has dealt in detail all the aspects of Jammu and Kashmir issue, the prevailing political situation, "growing violation of human rights" and other things in the letter.

He said that the United Nations has passed resolution on Jammu and Kashmir on January 5, 1949 recognising the right of self-determination of Kashmiri people. "We are observing it today on both sides of the LoC with the pledge to continue our struggle till we achieve our goal," Mirwaiz said.

He expressed hope that the new UN secretary general would play his role in granting the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir to restore the "dented" image of the world body.

Mirwaiz condemned the continued incarceration of Kashmiri leaders including Shaikh Aziz of Peoples League, Zamrooda Habib chief of women’s group Khwateen Markaz and Shabir Ahmad Zargar. He said that these leaders were not released despite court orders. Terming their incarceration "tyrannical," he stressed on the release of all the Kashmiri prisoners.
