STUDENTS OF Allahabad Degree College (ADC) created a ruckus on the Kydganj campus and boycotted the examinations on Friday morning over poor seating and lighting arrangements during internal examinations.
Trouble started when the students reached the college in the morning and discovered that dozens of them had not been allotted seats.
“We kept running from one classroom to another, but to no avail. Neither the principal nor the teachers were able to give any answers or make arrangements for students. Upset over the callous attitude of the authorities, the students then walked out of the classrooms shouting slogans and boycotting the exams,” said ADC students’ union general secretary Abhimanyu Singh.
Defunct tube-lights and bulbs in classrooms also angered the students, he added.
He claimed that except students of B Com (Part I) and M Com (Part I), all the others boycotted the examinations.
Sources said some students also tore up answer sheets of others writing the exams and damaged furniture.
ADC principal Dr GK Agarwal could not be contacted for comments.
ADC proctor Dr Shyam Kumar Singh said, “Due to some misunderstanding, proper seating arrangements could not be made for the students, which led to the confusion. We have postponed the B Com (Part II) exams, which will now be held on January 9, 10 and 12 at the same time as announced earlier.”
