Pilot is a close associate of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and is the son of late union minister Rajesh Pilot.

In Madhya Pradesh, Cong MP Arun Yadav (39) replaced Kantilal Bhuria (64).

The Congress had faced a rout in both states in the recent assembly polls.

The two take over just three months before the Lok Sabha elections at a time when the Congress faces a stiff challenge from BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Rajasthan accounts for 25 Lok Sabha seats and Madhya Pradesh 40.
