Sandalwood poacher injured in police firing

One person was injured in police firing while trying to poach logs of sandalwood from a prohibited airforce area in Jalahalli, Karnataka on Friday.

One person was injured in Police firing while trying to poach logs of sandalwood from a prohibited airforce area in Jalahalli on Friday.

According to the Police, four persons entered the area and illegally cut down a sandalwood tree.

They were noticed by airforce police and staff on duty, while trying to smuggle out the logs.

When the airforce staff tried to stop them, the dacoits threatened them with sharp weapons.

The airforce police opened fire in the air and asked them to surrender.

However, the dacoits refused to surrender and tried to assault the officials, forcing the police to open fire.

Raviappa, 45, sustained a bullet injuries on his right thigh.

Another accused dacoits Reddappa sustained some bruises on his head after some sharp wood pieces hit him, police said. Both were admitted to K C Hospital.

Meanwhile, the other two accomplices escaped.
