Security has been tightened in Assam following a general strike called by the ULFA, which has also asked the people to boycott all official functions being organised in the state for the Republic Day, official sources said on Sunday.
Sources said that all entry and exit points to important cities including the state capital Guwahati have been sealed and frisking of vehicles was being carried out to prevent any untoward incident.
The extremist outfit Karbi Longri Liberation Front (KLNF) active in the hill district of Karbi Anglong has called to observe R-Day as "Black Day" to protest against the alleged atrocities by the army on civilians.
Meanwhile, the banned ULFA has called for a "general strike" on the day like earlier times.
