While delivering his views as a chief guest in a seminar on pitiable condition of minorities and the report of Sachhar Commission, Atif said consecutive governments have failed to uplift the educational and social standard of minorities despite their tall claims.
He also lambasted the Muslim leaders in various political parties for their failure to mount pressure on the government for implementing the programmes designed for the minority communities. In this regard he quoted 15-point programme drafted by the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, which was not implemented.
He stressed on the need of powerful will and political pressure to implement such programmes.
Atif claimed that only a separate Muslim party could mount such sustainable pressure on government .
State leader of the Majlis, Taufiq Jafri also addressed the seminar and said though various minority organisations exist but Muslim Majlis has been serving the community for the last 40 years.
Atif said that the Muslims have been ignored despite sizeable population in the state. He said Majlis would field 62 candidates in the upcoming assembly election and three candidates at three assembly seats of Gorakhpur district.
