Seven arrested for killing couple of love marriage

In a suspected honour killing case in Moga district, the police have arrested seven persons on Wednesday, including the father and two brothers of a girl who was allegedly hacked to death along with her husband in village Phullewala in last week.

In a suspected honour killing case in Moga district, the police have arrested seven persons on Wednesday, including the father and two brothers of a girl who was allegedly hacked to death along with her husband in village Phullewala in last week.

The dead bodies of Kulwant Kaur (20) and her husband Jagtar Singh (25), who reportedly got married against the wishes of their families about a year back, were recovered from two different spots at Channuwala (Moga) and village Behbal Khurd (Faridkot).

Both residents of Phullewala village, after this couple in love got married about a year back, fearing the wrath from girl’s family, the duo left the house and started living in Raikot (Ludhiana) after marriage without the knowledge of the girl’s family. Moreover, Jagtar Singh started working as a daily wager in Raikot for last one year.

The police said that the couple, both neighbours in their village, had fallen in love after which they decided to get married against the wishes of the girl’s family.

It is alleged that after giving a severe thrashing and inflicting multiple fractures on Jagtar Singh, he and Kulwant Kaur were thrown in a canal near Gholia Khurd village of Moga. After a complaint by the father of the boy, the police started an investigation.

Surjit Singh Grewal, senior superintendent of police, Moga, told that the dead body of Kulwant Kaur was recovered from a canal near village Behbal Khurd of district Faridkot on July 4. “Two days after, on July 6, Jagtar’s dead body was also recovered from a canal near Channu Wala village of Moga. The Raikot (Ludhiana) police is investigating the whole matter at the moment but we helped the Raikot police party for arresting suspect persons,” said SSP.

After registering a murder and kidnapping case against seven persons, the police were searching for the accused.
The police had registered a criminal case against Gurpal Singh, Gurbaz Singh, Mangal Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Gurjit Singh, Gurjant Singh and taxi driver Kala Singh at Raikot police station.
