India's benchmark index slipped by as much as 0.5 per cent in late trade on Thursday after Congress President Sonia Gandhi said she would quit as a Member of Parliament.

"It is just a knee-jerk reaction from some retail participants in a market that was alrady top-heavy," said an institutional broker. "It's nothing to worry about."
The 30-share BSE index closed provisionally down 0.18 per cent at 10,821.60 points.
