Shiv Pal promises road repair

UP MINISTER for Public Works and Energy Shiv Pal Singh Yadav said here on Sunday that the state did not lack money for development work, what was needed was proper manpower to utilise the allocated funds.

Inaugurating the four-day Varuna Mahotsav at the cultural complex in Chaukaghat here last evening, he said, “ The development work of the state government is progressing at a cost of Rs 3,375 crore” and added that so far as the development work in Varanasi district was concerned, the district administration had not utilised the funds allocated.

“A series of development work will be held in the district soon and the trans-Varuna area will not remain untouched”, the minister said. Development projects would now be approved with new aspects in the month of April, he said.Yadav said that prominent roads of Varanasi would be repaired by June. “The Panchkoshi route is in a poor condition which poses difficulties for devotees but the roads will be repaired soon and the devotees will walk on smooth roads from the next time”, he said.

He said that 20-hour power supply would also be ensured in the district but for this power-theft should be checked. “The power-pilferers will not be spared at any cost”, he said.

The minister also lauded the efforts of the organising committee of Varuna Mahotsav for improving the condition of farmers and giving a platform to budding artistes. He promised all possible assistance for the development of Varuna Mahotsav, just like the Saifai Mahotsav.

State Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Virendra Singh welcomed the guests and said that a two-day animal and agriculture fair was also organised at Sardar Patel Inter College here, apart from a two-day health fair at Kachcha Baba Inter College.

Renowned classical singers and folk dancers enthralled the audience with their performances on this occasion. Murari Lal Sharma of Mathura and his troupe performed a folk dance “Brij Ki Hori (Charkula dance). Artistes of Bundelkhand performed Raey dance and renowned vocalist Chanu Lal Mishra and tabla maestro Ashok Pandey also gave their recitals on the inaugural day.
