Traffic snarls continued to haunt Noida on the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday after a number of traffic signals were rendered dysfunctional due to heavy rains last Friday.
Commuters have been demanding deployment of additional traffic constables on the affected crossings to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.
Motorists are finding it tough to commute with chaos all around.
Around half a dozen traffic lights, including those at Mamura Chowk, Labour Chowk, sectors 82 and 93, Atta, Khoda T-point and Nithari crossing, have been dysfunctional for many days now.
“Many traffic lights in the city are not working due to minor faults. The traffic department has written to the authority regarding the same issue. Moreover, we have deployed more traffic personnel at busy crossings,” said Dharmendra Yadav, traffic inspector, Noida.
Both motorists and pedestrians are risking their lives while crossing roundabouts as vehicles move recklessly in a bid to cross first.
“Heavy vehicles and tempo drivers take full advantage of the situation. Traffic policemen, standing at the corner of the road, seem helpless. Mamura Chowk is the busiest junction. Dysfunctional traffic lights are proof of the authority's poor pre-monsoon preparation,” said Mayank Gaur, a Sector 19 resident.
