BHOPAL WITNESSED birth of a new game — skate ball — at Model School playground in the City on Sunday. The first demonstration match of the game was played between teams of Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. According to Skate Ball Federation of India founder president Kishor Chauhan, skate ball is a game played on roller skates.
The dimension of the playing court is almost same as that of basketball court. “Like handball, there are two goalposts on each side.
The teams have to score maximum goals to win match,” said Chauhan. The match is of 30 minutes with two halves of 15 minutes each. Every side has six players.
He said the objective of inventing this game is to add features of various games. “This game has features of roller-skating, handball and others. Those players who could not excel in such games have the opportunity to shine in this game,” said Chauhan.
“Like ice hockey that was inspired from hockey this game looks inspired from handball,” said a spectator Gautam at the ground.
All safety measures have been incorporated in rules to protect players from any injury, Chauhan said. “As the game is played on skates there are chances of injuries to the players. To avoid such conditions, rules suggest the games can only be organised when players have all kinds of guards,” said Chauhan.
In the demonstration match, the team of Andhra Pradesh defeated MP by 14-11. In his address, the chief guest of demonstration match, IPS officer Yashovardhan Azad, appreciated the federation for developing a new game.
