Soldier killed near LOC in Kashmir

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was killed Monday in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Uri sector on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramullah district, a defence spokesman said.

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was killed Monday in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Uri sector on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramullah district, a defence spokesman said.

While no official was available for comment, Jammu and Kashmir police spokesman confirmed the firing incident on the border. J&K police however could not confirm death of the army official.

According to sources army is ascertaining if it was a ceasefire violation or an attack by infiltrators.

Meanwhile, following the incident, Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service has been suspended for today following the incident.

Sources say an army patrol was fired upon during the night. However, it was not clear whether the firing was from across the border or by militants hiding in the forest. Search operation is on and more details are awaited.
