The warring Somali government and the Union of Islamic Courts are scheduled to resume peace negotiations in the Sudanese capital next Wednesday.
This was announced by Sudanese Foreign Minister Akol Lam here on Sunday after he attended a meeting between Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and the envoy of Somali President Ismail Hamoudi.
Al-Bashir and Hamoudi explored in length ways and means of developing bilateral relations, he said, adding that the Somali envoy confirmed Wednesday's scheduled peace talks sponsored by Sudan between the Somali government and the Union of Islamic Courts.
The Somali warring parties in the first round of talks held last July under the auspices of the Arab League signed an agreement on cessation of hostilities and mutual recognition.
The two sides also agreed to hold the second round of negotiations in Khartoum at the beginning of August but it was postponed at the request of the government.
