Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has assured that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi would lay the foundation stone of the seventh Indian Institute of Management in Shillong soon.

At present, there are six such institutes at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kozhikode and Lucknow.
Informing this to reporters late on Sunday night, Meghalaya Chief Minister JD Rymbai said he held a threadbare discussion with the Union Minister on the proposed IIM when he called on him.
The setting up of the IIM would meet the aspirations of the region and help the talented get proper education in management studies, he said.
Earlier, the HRD ministry had deputed a team to inspect the proposed site for IIM at Mawdiangdiang, about 12 kilometres from Shilong.
