The private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where Sunanda Pushkar had sought treatment before leaving for Delhi, on Saturday denied reports that she was suffering from a life-threatening disease.
Dr G Vijayaraghavan, vice chairman of the Kerala Institute of Medical Science (KIMS), said, “She came here for an executive medical check-up. We gave her simple and routine medicines and she was asked to come again on January 20. We didn’t diagnose any serious ailment."
Sunanda, however, in one of her last tweets had mentioned so: “Got so many issues diagnosed in KIMS that now who know when I got 2 to go with joy hastay hua jayegay."
This triggered a speculation and some her friends disclosed that she was suffering from lupus, a chronic auto-immune disease that can damage vital organs. Some of the channels went a step further saying she had undergone a surgery at KIMS and went to the airport on a wheelchair.
EM Najeeb, executive director of the hospital said, “She was in the hospital for three nights and two days. She came to the hospital on Sunday and left Tuesday afternoon. In fact, Shashi Tharoor stayed with her in the hospital on Monday. I met her more than once and she was in her usual self."
Najeeb added that after leaving the hospital the minister and Pushkar had gone to the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple to attend a festival and had spent almost three hours there. “How can she spend three hours in the temple if she was unwell and on stretcher," asked Najeeb.
