More than leaders Chennai Super Kings taking on Delhi Daredevils, the focus will be on the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The cricket Board approached the Supreme Court on Monay after three stands at the Chidambaram Stadium were sealed again by the city corporation. The court is expected to give its verdict on Tuesday, ahead of the match.
Last year, CSK had played before half-empty galleries after the civic body locked down the stands until they were finally opened for the playoffs. If the stands are not opened for Tuesday's game, the home team will see a big dip in support for their last home fixture. The sealed stands can hold up to 12,000 people.
According to a stadium official, the move was unexpected: "We thought the matter was settled. But the corporation got the order to seal the stands. I don't know why they got the order for the lone remaining game.”
CSK too could lose revenue. "On an average, tickets in the stands cost around Rs 1100. We will have to refund the ticket amount if we don't get the judgement in our favour," he said.
