Teenager killed, three injured in firing in J&K

A teenaged student was killed and two civilians were injured when they were caught in crossfire between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Sunday, sparking angry protests by locals.

The situation was further aggravated when angry mobs attacked a CRPF picket and set ablaze a sentry post at a police station, prompting firing by the security forces that injured a woman.

Tariq Ahmad Sofi, a Class 12 student, died when BSF troops opened fire after the convoy of a deputy inspector general was attacked by terrorists at Palhalan-Pattan, 30 km from Srinagar, at noon, officials said.

Two civilians sustained minor injuries in the crossfire, they said.

As news of this incident spread, residents of Palhalan and adjacent areas took to the streets and hurled stones at a CRPF picket.

CRPF personnel fired in the air to disperse the protestors and a bullet hit a woman, identified as Misra Begum, the officials said adding that she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
