Tempo taxi drivers violate traffic rules with impunity

The laxity of traffic police has led the tempo taxi drivers violate traffic rules with impunity. With reckless driving they have posed a big risk to the pedestrian and small children moving on the road besides causing a lot of air pollution. What's more, the tempo drivers are in a habit of parking their vehicles in no parking zones and also on roadsides, causing great inconvenience to the road users.

What's more, the tempo drivers are in a habit of parking their vehicles in no parking zones and also on roadsides, causing great inconvenience to the road users.

"It is really hard to drive on those roads where tempo taxis move up and down.

Often it happens that tempo taxi comes to a screeching halt right in front of another moving vehicle which confuses the other vehicle driver", said Tanmay Singh, a pedestrian.

Not only this, the tempo drivers are mostly untrained and minors.

Above all, these tempo taxis are one of the causes for rising air pollution.

"Though scrubbers have been fixed at the back of the tempos, so as to help check pollution but it seems that scrubbers are not functioning properly", said another pedestrian, Shikha.

When contacted, CO (Traffic) Arvind Mishra said, "Measures have been taken in this regard like penalising the tempo drivers under Motor Vehicles Act who are under-age and are driving the vehicle. Besides, time to time campaigns are held to help check pollution."

Traffic cops who are on duty do take action against those tempo drivers who wrongly park the vehicle, added Mishra."Besides, we will be taking measures to fix a particular route for the tempos", he claimed.

On contacting president of Allahabad Tempo Vikram Taxi Union Vinod Chandra Dubey, said, "Though we are timely paying the fee but no proper parking place has been provided to us. As far as pollution is concerned, it is necessary that the whole machinery of tempos should be replaced. Unless this step is not taken, scrubbers are not going to function properly."
