Tension prevailed in Vemagiri village in East Godadavi today and Section 145 of Criminal Procedure Code promulgated when two groups of Congress supporters and general public got into a dispute over installation of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's statue in the middle of the National Highway.
While Congress supporters advocated strongly in favour of the statue installation, National Highway authorities, Vemagiri panchayat officials and general public alleged that the statue installed in the middle of the road disrupts the traffic on the Kolkata Chennai national Highway.
The national Highway authorities lodged a complaint in the Kadim Police station against the installation of the statue in the middle of the highway. It will lead to accidents and several problems to the vehicular movement on the road, they complained in the complaint.
They also alleged that it was against the rules to install the statue in the middle of the road. While Congress supporters said it was totally 'false' and there was no disruption of traffic or any problem due to installation of the statue.
The statue would be unveiled by Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy tomorrow, when he would be visiting Vemagiri mandal. Kadiaam Revenue Divional officer Ravi Babu and Rajahmundry DSP Prabahkar Rao visited the district and took all preventive measures in view of the unveiling of the statue.
