Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasised the importance of technology, the power of new India and the need to tackle terrorism in his address to a huge gathering of the Indian diaspora at the SAP Centre in California’s San Jose.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasised the importance of technology, the power of new India and the need to tackle terrorism in his address to a huge gathering of the Indian diaspora at the SAP Centre in California’s San Jose.

The Prime Minister thanked them for working to put India on the world map by giving it a new identity and image and talked about how the 21st century now belongs to India.

Here are 10 top takeaways from the Prime Minister’s speech:

1. Your fingers created magic on the keyboard and the computer and this gave India a new identity. Your skill and commitment is wonderful.

2. We would hear - we need to stop this brain drain. But India is Bahuratna Vasundhara, there will be many brains there.

3. From Upanishads, we have moved to upgraha. India succeeded in its Mars Mission in the very first attempt.

4. There are two major challenges facing the world today — terrorism and global warming. We need to mitigate these two menaces. The UN still has not been able to define terrorism, if it will take so much time to define, how much time will it take us to tackle it?

6. Today, after 16 months, I want a certificate from you saying if I have fulfilled my duties or not. Do I have any allegations of corruption against me?

7. The world has started to believe that the 21st century now belongs to India. Today the world looks at India with hope and confidence. The 21st century is India’s century and this change is not because of me, but because of 1.25 billion Indians.

8. Be it World Bank, Moody’s or any other research agency, everyone is saying India is the fastest growing economy in the world.

9. I have faith in the nation because India is youthful. Sixty five percent of our population is under the age of 35.

10. Penetration of technology is immense. Everybody has mobile phones today. E-governance is effective governance, easy governance and most economical governance.
