Three Indians to be honoured at SAE

The annual SAE World Congress is rated the largest learning event for automotive engineering professionals, managers and executives.

A 50-strong delegation from India will participate in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress that gets underway from April 3 in the US.

This year's Congress will see 18 companies including Kalyani Forge, Lucas-TVS, Rico Auto, Sundaram Industries, Wheels India and Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) participating at the four-day event that begins April 3 at the Cobo Centre, Detroit.

Three Indians - V Ganesan, a professor at the IIT Chennai, MKG Babu from IIT, Delhi, and V Sumantran, formerly with Tata Motors, will be honoured with the SAE International Fellowship, the highest award for outstanding contribution to the automotive industry.

India's automotive exports are projected to grow by over 30 per cent to touch 0.85 million units in 2005-06 and are slated to grow faster in the coming years.

On the component front, the growth has been even more spectacular. In value terms, auto component exports are expected to touch $2.6 billion in 2006-07, recording more than 100 percent growth from the $1.2 billion in 2004-05.

MS Kumar, senior vice-president, SAE India, said: "India's strength in product design and manufacture of components to world class standards at low cost is attracting global majors to India.

SAE is the premier organisation dedicated to advancing mobility engineering worldwide. It has 90,000 members spread worldwide.
